Jenny and Justin Henderson Family

Hello Family,

The Henderson household has been pretty busy! Over the past year Gabrielle has grown so much. It is hard to believe that this coming August she will be 2! She is now talking up a storm. Some we can understand and some we are still trying to figure out. She is now taking swim lessons at our local YMCA, this is her second year and every Saturday morning she wakes up and asks me to put her swimsuit on her. I think this year on the lake will be very easy with her love for the water! Let’s just hope we can get her out at times. I have a feeling we will be spending a lot of time this summer at Auntie Granny and UJ’s (Patty and John) in their swimming pool. She also loves going to the park, going for wagon rides and having a dance party with Mommy every morning in the kitchen! She is a very busy little girl.

We did spend a week at Children’s Hospital with her in September. We took her in for a high fever and when the staff could not figure out what was causing the high fever they ran some tests and found that she was very dehydrated. They admitted her that evening to keep her on an IV and rehydrate her so she would drink on her own, but we ended up staying 4 nights because she refused to drink on her own. We think she liked the attention she was getting. Turns out the high fever was from Roseolla. Once the rash hit a day later she was drinking much better and we were able to go home. It was a long 4 nights there! We were so very thankful we were there for those reasons instead of something more serious.

We did not do too much traveling last year. We went to the lake a lot though! Justin organized our yearly Crownline rally last year in June with another friend, so we went to Lake Cumberland for 5 days to take part in the event. Gabrielle stayed with Auntie Granny and UJ for the week, and Justin and I enjoyed some “us” time. By day 2 I was missing Gabby! We also took 5 days and went to Lake Cumberland for our houseboat timeshare. This was a lot of fun, but the weather did not cooperate for us too well. Gabby loved being on the boat though! We also all went to Laurel Lake over July 4th and Norris Lake over Labor Day. These trips were a blast! Gabby had a lot of fun playing with all of our friend’s kids on these trips. This year we are headed to the lake a couple of times for our timeshare and rally and then we are going to Disney World in October with another family. We are really looking forward to Disney. Then we have a cruise lined up next February! We are making up for the travel time we missed last year, I guess.

Justin is still working for GE in the TSG group. He just finished a large assignment that required a lot of travel to South Carolina, so we are glad that is over, but I am sure more will be coming. I am still with M & R Technologies and loving every minute of it. I am still full time, but I do not go in until 10:30am every day so I have more time with Gabrielle in the morning. Dad and Janet are still watching her 3 days a week and the other 2 days she goes to Aunt Chris’s. So glad to know she is with family every day!

Well, I think that just about sums it up! I hope everyone is doing well! Take care and hopefully we will see you all soon!

Love,
Jenny, Justin and Gabrielle

Hello everyone!  Hope everyone is doing well!

Not too much going on with us.........John is working for ATW now.  He was
laid off in October and called back in February.  He has been doing some traveling to Indy.  Long days but he loves the work he does. He does electrical wiring for assembly lines.

I am still at UD.  Very busy right now!!   We are implementing a new
computer system and it is a lot of work putting all the information in.  UD also has the biggest freshmen class coming this year....2063 was the last count.  Since we are going on the new system we have to register the freshmen by hand so more work.  It is job security I guess!  I do really love UD!

How about them Flyers!!!  Winning the NIT!!!  John, Jenny and I have season
tickets....we are Flyer Faithful! Jenny and I took the bus trip to Cincy to watch them beat the Cincinnati Bearcats.  Had a great time! Wanted to go to New York when they won the NIT but could not find the time.  My two favorite teams playing...UD and North Carolina....and UD winning!!!!  Doesn't get any better!

Love spending time with Gabrielle.  She is so much fun and such a joy!  It
is like watching Jenny grow up all over again.  John and I love to spoil her!!!!

Kristi is still at Children's Hospital just not in Urgent Care anymore.
She is in the Emergency room now. Still loves it.  She moved in with a friend last year and just recently rescued a dog.  She got a Jack Russell and her name is Jersey.  Jersey is a special needs dog.  The vet thinks she had a stroke when she was born. Jersey can only turn to the right and she bounces (prances) instead of walking.  She is adorable!

Keith is still living at home but hoping to move out soon!  He is still
working for M & R Technologies.

This summer we are going on a house boat with Jenny and Justin.  It should
be alot of fun!!!!  Went a few years ago and had a blast!  Not doing too much because of  this economy.

Dad sold their house in Sept.   That was hard!!! I had to keep telling
myself...it is only a house, it is only a house...you have the memories in your heart.  Still hard!  He moved in with his friend Delores Bierlein. Delores and her husband Bill sold the house on Pritz to mom and dad.  Small world!  They have fun together and I am he has someone to do things with.  His new address is...............

3849 Kemp Rd

Beavercreek, Ohio  45431
426-5740

I am sure he would love to hear from everyone......you know men....they
don't call or write!!!

Hope everyone has a great and safe summer!!!!!!!  Love to all!

We enjoyed our Spring break in Phoenix, Arizona again this year. We caught the Grand Canyon Railroad in Williams, AZ and headed up to the Grand Canyon. It is truly breath taking. It is so hard to realize how huge and massive it is or it is probably better to say how small we are in the world. I could stand there all day and just look. We stopped in Sedona along the way to see the Chapel of the Holy Cross. The Red Rocks are beautiful and my favorite part. I understand why they call this God's Country. Pictures can't give you the true pleasure you feel when you are there. But Katrina got a beautiful picture of the Chapel. Just beautiful! We stopped at the Meteor Crator in the painted desert. Frederick and Chuck like this, a big hole in the ground. You could see for miles and it was so deserted.

We learned all about elevation and how it could change so quickly. Going from 80 degrees to snow in the mountains was so neat. The mountains were beautiful and they were everywhere. I did have a favorite that we was saw everywhere we went. It was like watching over us. We learned it was the San Franciscio (St. Francis) Peaks just north of Flagstaff. Back in Phoenix, we eat at Haus Murphey's which was on Diners, Drive-in and Dives. We loved the German food and listening to Katrina speak German. We hiked on Squaw Peak. It was only 1.2 miles but it was listed as difficult. AND IT WAS! But, it is such a beautiful area.

Samantha spent her spring break in Houston, TX. She is one of the drivers for the Purdue Solar Racing car and they competed in Houston this past March. They did really well with over 3500 MPG. Frederick and I was able to see the car at Purdue a few weeks ago. Pretty cool. Sam is enjoying her computer graphic classes and is excited to see where her career path leads her.

Katrina is a Junior this year and is involved in Cross Country in the fall, Bowling in the winter and Softball in the spring. She also enjoys art, drawing and photography. She is visiting colleges and looking forward to her Senior year.

Frederick is a Freshman this year. After many years watching his sister, he is happy to finally be a member of the Homestead Alliance Marching Band. He plays the trombone in band and Jazz Band.
Chuck is still at Stirling Energy working on Sun Catchers. We were able to see the sun catchers at work in Phoenix. Solar is becoming popular in our family. I look forward to having Mom here again this summer. The kids and their friends love Grandma.  We are planning to see a baseball game (Tin Caps), eat lunch at a Tea Shop and visit Dayton.  So, we are open to any suggestions and hopefully we will get to see everyone.

Congratulations Sarah Ward on graduating from Marquette High School May 25 2010. She will be joining her brother Nathan at Missouri Science and Technology studying Aerospace Engineering.

Both Nathan and Sarah will be working at a High Adventure Boy Scout Camp this summer. The end of July they will hike with their Venture Crew/Boy Scouts for a 10 day, 80 mile backpacking trek at Philmont Boy Scout Ranch in New Mexico
.
Mom spent the winter with John and Diane, enjoying Texas and some warmer weather. They did get 12 inches of snow in Dallas. That was more than St Louis.  In February they went on a 7 day cruise. Mom's first she had a ball. She went down the slide at the pool on the ship and enjoyed the food and drinks. They even caught her dancing in the streets of Cozumel. Check out John's Facebook for pictures.

Mom has been quilting and visiting her kids and grand kids about every 3 months. She will be on to Kitti's for the summer. So she may get a trip to Dayton over the summer.

Bruce and Jeani are doing fine. Bruce working with Boy Scouts, Venture Crews, Coast Guard and church let alone work. Jeani has been just trying to keep up with things and enjoying some quiet time.

Have a safe summer

Holly and Tom Underwood Family

Zach is now a very lively and talkative three year old. He’s very creative and imaginative, enjoys reading and playing with animals or dinosaurs. He loves to cut paper with scissors, paint, and color with what looks like utter randomness to us. He often pretends it’s someone’s birthday, wrapping up a toy in a towel or cloth napkin as a present. He loves to make music (with real or improvised instruments) and sing, and is getting better at singing the real words to songs. His version of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer has already changed drastically in just a week of hearing it. He is testing the world around him to see what he can do (and some days, I think he’s testing to see just how much patience Mommy has…) but is still good-natured and great company. He’s a joy to have around.

Tom’s still at Dayton Metro Library at a branch that he doesn’t feel well suited for. But library funding has been cut so drastically in the last couple of years that there are very few jobs available to move to so there he stays, enjoying the good days and the steady paycheck. He plays music and reads a lot.

This fall marked 15 years at Cityfolk for me. I’m working there three days a week which leaves lots of time for being Mommy. We’re thankful that I get to spend so much time with Zach. Over the last year I’ve made a point of spending more time being crafty – sewing and embroidering, mostly – which has resulted in several new shirts for Zach, decorations for the house and handmade gifts for most occasions this year. It goes a long way toward keeping me sane and happy. In November I opened a shop on Etsy.com (like a craft show on the web) to sell a few things. We’re not traveling too much these days, but made it to Michigan a few times for festivals and family visits. The big deal was flying to Colorado to visit my brother Bryan and his wife and kids. It was the first time he and I had shared Thanksgiving in over 20 years! My parents were there too, which gave us all some very rare family time. It was fun to watch Zach and his cousins get to know each other too.

All in all, we feel blessed to have each other, good health and reliable jobs and a wealth of dear family and friends. If you'd like to see more photos of us, they're here.

Bryan Bergman and Leigh Perreault Family

Leigh, the kids and I have all had a great year. The kids are growing like weeds, and love riding their bikes, swimming, etc... All the normal kid stuff. One of our family highlights from the past year was skiing together at Breckenridge, spending the day in the terrain park. Anna and Theo loved throwing themselves off the jumps, hitting rail slides, etc... It was so fun! Theo doesn’t have the skills to land the air he was getting, in fact, I think he only pulled one of them off – but wow did he have fun trying. This also came after the Olympics, so we had to get in the half pipe so they could do their Shaun White imitation!

Professionally, things couldn’t be better for Leigh and I. I received 2 big grants this year, which came on the heels of Leigh’s big grant last year. So – the division of Endocrinology at the University of Colorado gave us our own lab space as well as some money to put equipment in it! We are crazy excited. We are also publishing like crazy, and our data is looking good. I think Leigh is onto a new therapeutic modality to treat pre-diabetes, and I think I stumbled on a new therapeutic target for type 2 diabetes. Time will tell but it is all really exciting.

This year was also one marked by extreme loss. Our 16 year old dog Arthur had to be put down. He was an amazing dog and we miss him every day. It has left a huge hole in our family, and Leigh and I have had a really hard time dealing with the loss. After a while we realized that a one dog house wasn’t for us (we still have my 10 year old mutt Louey), so Leigh picked out a new dog. She is an adorable 5 month old mix of mostly Australian Shepherd and something else really cut. She has a ton of energy, which has been great for our family!

Leigh and I also pulled off some big athletic goals for the year as well. She completed a 50km (32 mile) off road trail running race in the spring in Gunnison, CO. She was having a bad stomach day (which makes a long day of exercise quite hard) but persevered. She completed the event slower than she was looking for (her goal was under 7 hours), but finished! I was in awe watching her run all day long – she is amazing!

I also was able to pull off a goal of mine that I’ve harbored for 25 years. After working on my swimming (I’m a terrible swimmer), I was able to complete Ironman Canada! This is a full Ironman race like the one in Hawaii – 2.4 mile swim, 112 mile bike, and then a marathon. I also went slower than I wanted, but finished in 10:49. I’m hooked though – and am doing another one next year (Lake Placid). It was a fun race on and extremely beautiful course. Good stuff!

We also have been traveling a bit, but not as much as we would like. This past fall, we went to Iceland for a week, which is a trip that we have been excited to take for quite a while. We made Reykjavik our base camp, and explored the national parks all over the island. We would trail run wherever we went to see more of the parks – it was gorgeous. Tons of geothermal sites and features, and amazing food.

We also did a vacation in Sedona AZ in the spring which ended up being a training camp where we each put in close to 20 hours of exercise. It is such a beautiful place! We also took the kids to Disneyworld this fall and had a blast. This fall we are headed to St. Thomas where Leigh is speaking at a continuing education conference for physicians, and then in March we are headed Maui.

So things are good here!
Bryan

Bill and Rusty Bergman

Hello again from Bill and Rusty!

It is hard to believe that another year has flown by.

Rusty and I continue to enjoy our travels as traveling has become a large part of our retirement activities. Of course, even in retirement, working has also remained a steady factor.

In March we traveled to Fort Lauderdale to start our Spring Cruise with our cruising friends, with whom we try to travel every year. That 10 day cruise was back to the Caribbean with several new ports of call for us. They were Saint Kitts and Dominica. We still enjoy our days at sea relaxing around the spa pool. The food was also excellent.

The big cruise trip this year was a 13 day cruise in the Mediterranean. This was the second time we sailed that magnificent sea. We started by flying to Barcelona Spain where we stayed several days prior to the cruise departure. This trip we sailed with friends from South Carolina that we met on the last cruise to the Med. They are great people and good traveling companions. Barcelona is a wonderful city; beautiful, exciting and full of wonderful architecture….fun to walk around and safe as well. We got our overview of Barcelona by riding the “Hop on-Hop off” tour bus; it is a super way to do that.

We departed on Rusty’s birthday and traveled to Villefranche, where we took a tour to Monaco and Monte Carlo. I did get in the casino but did not gamble. We saw the church where Princess Grace was married and is buried. Then off to Livorno where our tour was to a Tuscany vineyard for lunch and wine tasting. A gorgeous area and a great tour. From there we cruised to Citicavecchia, which is the port serving Rome. We acted as tour guides and took our friends into Rome by train and back. It is about an hour trip each way.

Once in Rome we walked to the Spanish Steps and Trevi fountain, having lunch at the Bergman family favorite restaurant in Rome: “L’Archetto.” Rusty enjoyed shopping for purses. From Citicavecchia, we sailed to Piraeus Greece for a quick tour to the Acropolis in Athens. Beautiful! From there to Kusadasi Turkey where we took a tour to Ephesus, a marvelous ancient Roman City. Next was Santorini Greece which was our favorite stop on this cruise. Stunning and beautiful blue roofed white washed buildings everywhere. Very colorful.

We enjoyed a great bottle of wine with a view overlooking the harbor. From there we sailed back to Naples where we toured Herculaneum, another victim of the volcano Vesuvius. This town was buried in mud rather than ash and therefore was exceptionally well preserved. From Naples we cruised back to Barcelona for the flight home. A GREAT cruise.

Later that summer we traveled West by car to visit Bryan, Leigh, Anna and Theo going by way of several new places to visit in the US. We went to Galena, Illinois to start, a cute little town. Then on to Sioux Falls which has a great Falls River Park to see. From there we visited the Corn Palace and then off to Wall, SD where we stopped at Wall Drug, a nationally known drug store. From there it was a short trip to see Mount Rushmore, a wonderful place. We did the Needles Highway circuit and the towns of Deadwood and XXX. Then on to see Devils Tower in Wyoming, finally arriving in Boulder, where we stayed for 12 days. This visit allowed Bryan and Leigh to go to Iceland for a short vacation.

We had a wonderful family Thanksgiving, gathering together all three grandchildren, Holly, Tom, Leigh and Bryan at Bryan’s home in Boulder, the first Thanksgiving together for many, many years. That was a most memorable Thanksgiving with much to be thankful for!

We have committed to our next adventure: a 23 day land tour of Australia and New Zealand, leaving March 8th, 2011; but more on that next newsletter. Our love and best wishes for continued health and happiness to all the Bergman families.

Fred and Sue Bergman Family

Within the last year The Bergman Family has been "Thankful" for many things: Most of all for God's love and guidance to help us face the many challenges that we have had along the way. Thankful for our strong faith in His love and for family and friends. We build our Trust in the Lord and thank Him for the many Blessings He has bestowed on us. For with faith in God all is possible.

Jason, Tina and the kids have been really busy. Jason has been taking college courses online to further his education. He is still unemployed but is building his knowledge to improve his education and hopefully find a suitable job in Computer design and technology. He is doing well and has been working extra hard so that he may be able to change his career path. Walmart just wouldn't be the place to shop for Christmas gifts if Tina didn't devote so many hours working. The kids are involved with many sports activities, the football season just ended and Jason helped coach Dakota's football team. Dakota played for Northridge this past season and did very well, he is a fast runner and likes the game. Kate was a cheerleader and lead the girls with all the cheers. Jason and Tina devote alot of time making sure the kids got to practices and games. Fred loves to get involved with the kids, one time he even went and worked on the chain gang. It was fun to go and watch the games and see Dakota play and Kate cheer. Dakota also played baseball and Karen played softball during the summer. This year the twins (Dakota and Katie) are in the 3rd grade and Karen is in the 5th.The kids sports and school schedule is very full and they are constantly on the go. Matt is now a freshman at Northridge High School which he is enjoying. He is a good student and likes to hang out with his new friends. He's not much into sports but has a good work ethic. Matt helps Tina's Uncle with his farm and has a willing determination to help us with anything. Time flies and the grandkids are growing up right before our eyes.

GREAT NEWS!!!! Jessica and Matt got married October 9th.....it was a beautiful intimate wedding. Small in nature due to the financial challenges the economy presents all of us. They were married at UD where they both went to college followed by a reception at the Bainbridge Hall. If you would like to see pictures, they can viewed on Jessica's facebook photo link. Matt is working at Dave Dennis as a car salesman until he can further his career with the Dayton Police Department. It has been his desire to build upon his degree in Criminal Justice and be a policeman. This has been challenging! But he is a great guy filled with determination and drive and soon he'll accomplish that goal. Matt has been with Jessica since their junior year of high school and they are very happy. Jessica is now teaching at Holy Angels Catholic School. She is teaching 6th grade Math, Language Arts and Religion. She taught at Miamisburg Neff Elementary for 2 years but due to budget cuts she was let-go. Teaching at a Private school has been a whole new experience. Between teaching and planning her wedding she was very busy. Her spare time is next to none. Matt and Jessica have planned a honeymoon to Disney during the Christmas holidays.

Joe graduated this past May from Northridge. He was working first before college at ANC in Fairborn, but unfortunately was recently laid-off. The search for employment has been frustrating. He would like to work for awhile, build his finances and then start his education at Sinclair or at a Technical School. He wants to be a computer gamer along with a technical writer and create programs of new computer graphics and design for games. Joe still occupies his time on the x-box and is nationally ranked with his wins. Just the other day his opponent was Russian and actually lived in the Soviet. Amazing how one can play against others from all around the world. This summer he played on stage at Kings Island, maybe you saw him on Youtube? If not, he can be viewed by going to youtube, type in superjasonb and look for rockbandfritz, Joe is the big guy with the cowboy outfit.....it's hilarous.

Grandview Hospital is Fred's second home. He works his 3am shift and sometimes longer. His 56th birthday is right around the corner. I only have to blink and the years fly by. Fred gave up his Bengal Season tickets this year after being a loyal fan for over 25 years. Now he just watches them on the TV and gets very frustrated with their inability to win. Fred does spend time going to the grandkids games. He is their most loyal fan. He does seem to get as irritated with the officiating at times as he does with the Bengal games. This football season he watched Dakota and tried to give him winning strategies and pointers. Hit them low and hit them hard. Dakota tried to make grandpa proud. One game Fred even joined the chain gang so the game could start. Fred and Jason still bowl with the Knights of Columbus. Jason has already gotten his 300 game ring and with every week tries to get it again. He missed a 700 series by the 7 pin standing this past Monday nite. Fred loves his sports whether it be the kids playing, the Bengals, the Reds and even the Dragons. If he were given a choice I am sure his spare time would be filled with them all. Fred takes dad to Frickers for their chicken specials, to get Dad some down time for fun. Fred went to Vegas earlier this month and stayed at the Planet Hollywood and enjoyed some time with Frank and Debbie trying to be BIG WINNERS......

[Suzanne is] still Office Manager at Nation Grinding, going on 17 years. It was touch and go as to whether the shop was going to stay in business but with the grace of God and alot of hard work, I think we are going to survive. I am still involved at church and cantor twice a month and am a Eurcharistic Minister. It was fun helping Jessica plan her wedding and amazing at all the expenses. We have only been planning since she was a little girl, just kidding! She made a beautiful bride and I am proud to be her mother. It's hard to believe how quickly our children grow up and make their own lives and memories.

Thanks Suzanne

I AM THANKFUL THAT I AM STILL HERE ON THIS EARTH AND ABLE TO CELEBRATE THANKSGIVING WITH MY FAMILY.  I AM SO BLESSED.
